National Talent Search Examination or NTSE Exam is a national level scholarship test conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training or NCERT for granting scholarships to the meritorious students studying in class 10th.
NTSE is conducted in two stages:
Stage 1: It is a State Level Exam conducted by different States and Union territories. Students qualifying the Stage 1 of NTSE Exam will be eligible to appear for Stage 2.
Stage 2: It is a National Level Exam conducted by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

NTSE Stage 1 was conducted on 4th and 5th of November 2017, and Stage 2 will be conducted on May 13th, 2018. Students of class 10th who are looking for a scholarship program can apply for the NTSE 2018. The last date to submit NTSE Phase 2 application form is 31st December 2017. Closing dates of NTSE Phase 1 application forms are notified separately by different States and Union territories. NTSE 2018 scholarship will be awarded on the basis of overall performance of students in both the stages of the examination.
NTSE Scholarships:
Around 1000 scholarships are awarded for each stage of education. These stages are:
  • For Class XI to Class XII, a scholarship of Rs.1250/- per month is provided.
  • For Undergraduates and Postgraduates, a scholarship of Rs.2000/- per month is provided.
  • For Ph.D., the scholarship amount is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.
NTSE Reservation:
  • 7.5% for students belonging to the ST Category.
  • 3% for Physically Challenged Students.
NTSE Exam Qualifying Marks:
  • 40% Marks in each paper for General category students.
  • 32% Marks in each paper for SC, ST & PH category students.
NTSE Exam Eligibility Criteria:
  • Only Class 10th students are eligible for appearing in NTSE Exam provided the student is studying in a School recognized by the government.
  • The Student should be below 18 years of age.
  • Previously employed students are not eligible to appear for NTSE Exam.
  • The Student has never applied for class 10th exam before.
  • Open Distance Learning (ODL) Students are also eligible.

KVPY
The Kishore VaigyanikProtsahanYojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science.
Objective
The objective of the program is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies normally on the Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July every year.
Selection of the students is made from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research. Special groups / Committees are set up at IISc to screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test at various centres in the country. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.
Generous fellowships are provided up to the pre-Ph.D. level to the selected KVPY Fellows.

Eligibility - 2017
The KVPY Fellowships are given to Indian Nationals to Study in India

Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2017-18 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination.

Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) during the academic year 2017–18 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. for the session 2018–19 provided they have secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination and a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination.

Stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. during the academic year 2017–18 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII Standard Board Examination. In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. they must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.

Empowerment initiative in the KVPY Fellowship Program:
  • A certain number of additional fellowships exclusively for the students belonging to SC/ST community under the various streams as stated above will be operated.
  • A certain number of fellowships under various streams as stated above will be operated exclusively for students under the category of Persons With Disability (Physically and Visually Challenged).
KVPY Exam Pattern 2018
Here we are providing the exam pattern of KVPY 2018 examination:
  • Exam Mode : : The aptitude test will be conducted through online (Computer Based Test) mode.
  • Date & Shift : It will be organized in the first week of November 2018. It will be started from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM for Stream SA. For Stream SB/SX, the exam will begin from 2 PM to 5 PM.
  • Medium of Question Paper:The question paper will be asked both in English & Hindi Language.
  • Type of Questions :: It is a multiple choice type question paper. All the questions are compulsory to attempt in Stream SA. There is an option to attempt any three sections in PART I & any two sections in PART II in Stream SB/SX.
  • Duration of Exam : The duration of the aptitude test will be three hours.
  • Sections : The question paper will contain two sections: PART I & PART II. There will be four sections in PART I & PART II.
  • Total Marks: The question paper will consist of 100 marks.

KVPY 2018 Marking Scheme
The question papers of Stream SA & Stream SB/SX will be of 100 marks. In PART I of both the Stream, one mark will be awarded for correct response & 0.25 marks will be deducted for incorrect response. In PART II of Stream SA & Stream SB/SX, for each correct response two marks will be given to the candidates & 0.5 marks will be deducted for incorrect answer.
